This is correct what Kepter said. I have been to Emigrant too many times.
"WIth regard to c9h13no3's suggestion of Kennedy Meadows, there are a couple of problems, although the bridges down low are great. Summit Creek won't be crossable at the inlet end of Relief Reservoir, and so there is only the one way to go--up toward Sheep Camp. But Sheep Camp is at 8800 while most of western Emigrant is a 1000 feet lower. I think of W Emigrant as opening up 2-3 weeks earlier than N Emigrant."

I wouldn't try to go over Brown Bear Pass to EML thru Sheep camp either until August. Leavitt lake snow sensor says its at 20FT of snow, 20 ft. We have to wait to see how it melts to see if its passable or not. I fish and I don't won't to go to lake in July that still frozen over. I have done that too many times in the past, especially at Echo Lake in Sabrina basin. Its a bummer when u get to a lake the last week in July to fish and its frozen over. Just my thoughts. Also you can contact Kennedy Meadows Pack Station and they will give you a true update on the snow conditions there.

Thank you all for the very valuable input and time giving multiple povs. We were thinking about fishing Buck, Emigrant, and Huckleberry, but it sounds like late July or August adventure. Maybe even go further south. Goal is to fish. It is awesome to see the power and majesty of water. We will take as much snow as we can get, even if it runs fishing plans.

A little late for this post but I too want to get into the Emigrant as early as possible. I tend to pay more attention to snow water content than snow depth since I think it’s a better indicator of runoff and duration of the snow. The snow water content for the Gianelli snow sensor near the Gianelli trailhead and not far from the Crabtree trailhead was 96” last week. That’s 8 feet of water sitting on the ground! I think I’ll be sticking to short day hikes for quite a while.

I read on the FS website that the road to Crabtree is now open/plowed? but still has some snow on it- probably drivable in a truck or 4wd, but you may want to call them if you have a low clearance passenger car. You definitely can get to the pack station. There are some interesting looking lakes and rock slab area west of Cherry Creek south of the lower parallel trail. With the rate of the melt now, I would not want to get on the east side of Cherry Creek and then not be able to return safely.

Now the website is saying Crabtree is "unreachable" for current conditions.

WD is correct the forest service says it "unreachable". Here's the URL https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/stanisl ... ecid=81685. I think there is too much snow still. Gianelli Meadow snow sensor is at 134 inches. Thats 11 feet of snow. It's like a 1200 ft higher than crabtree but its only like 3 miles away between the too driving.
