Neither, backcountry touring skis. We go into ungroomed territory. If you note, we are the only tracks out there in a lot of pics. We have beefy leather, Duck billed boots that are very much like the more solid hiking boots and medium width skis, 88’s.
As for how many horsepower… She is as powerful as my old BIG male was in his youth and absolutely doesn’t quit or give up up hill. She puts that little bootie into low gear, leans into the harness and PULLS. She is great. 0-16 MPH in a heartbeat on the flat. Too fast for me and she knows better.

I bet it all is very different now after the big storm! You timed it right.

Beautiful! Thanks for the real view of the snow that we've been guessing at here on the coast. I guess it will have changed a lot by now. We might follow you out there soon, it's one safe place to ski.

I love skiing the Sierra!
You have me chomping at the bit. I hope to get out this spring, up Hwy120 into Yosemite.
I have an old pair of 210cm, smooth bottom, Fisher 88 skis, and Asolo-Scarpa duck bill leather double boots I use nowadays on gentle terrain. They are pure joy on easy terrain, but require more technical finesse and strength on challenging terrain compared to modern tele skis. I also have a hybrid tele setup consisting of Scott duckbill plastic boots paired with Atomic Backland 95s AT skis @ 180cm for the more challenging terrain. The new set is so easy to ski, the skis practically turn at the thought of doing so. The folks at the ski shop thought I was eccentric not going to an AT binding, but the 3-pin simplicity is dependable and gets me over any terrain I wish to take on. The Asolo-Scarpa boots are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. They feel like house slippers, yet were beefy enough to get me down most of the runs at Mammoth back in the day, not to mention several of the named Sierra winter ski traverses.

Re: TR: Skiing Mammoth Thanksgiving 2022
@Gogd We also ski with Fisher S bound 88’s and the Fisher Duck billed boots.
I have never perfected tele but have had my eye on a hybrid setup like you talk about. Sometimes, coming down steep stuff, I just need more turning and stopping power. I end up side stepping down for a very long way! I honestly didn’t know that you could still buy three pin Duck bills so I am REALLY interested in your set up.
The men’s Asolo’s and Scarpa men’s leather boots fit me well and what I have used for years for hiking so now I am really intrigued. You say, Asolo - scarpa, did the two merge? Anyway, I will send you a pm, if you don’t mind to get more info. We are leaving one last time this season for Mammoth so can’t write today. I will appreciate any info you can give me on your toe set up.
PS what does GOGD stand for?

PPS Don’t you find the 180cm heavy? We rented a pair of wide skis from Mammoth Mountaineering and they ere so heavy, we jsut didn’t have a good time. They were Madsush.
