According to the NOAA estimates for Tuolumne Meadows this weekend, the new snowfall could be as much as 5 feet!. Even the low end of the estimate is nearly 4 feet. See below, this their estimate for 12/9/22:
Saturday Snow, mainly after 7am. The snow could be heavy at times. Widespread haze before noon, then widespread haze after 3pm. Patchy dense fog after 4pm. High near 35. Wind chill values as low as 1. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 15 to 21 inches possible.
Saturday Night Snow before 10pm, then snow showers between 10pm and 4am, then snow after 4am. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. Widespread haze. Patchy dense fog before 9pm, then areas of dense fog after 2am. Widespread dense freezing fog, mainly before 1am. Low around 8. Wind chill values as low as 1. Windy, with a west southwest wind 15 to 20 mph increasing to 25 to 30 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 25 to 31 inches possible.
Sunday Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Widespread haze before 3pm. Patchy fog between 9am and 10am. Widespread dense freezing fog, mainly before 8am. High near 29. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.
So, what was predicted to be a dry winter seems to be shaping up nicely.

unfortunately, there is a decent possibility that it will follow a similar trajectory as last year: a wet oct-dec followed by a dry new year.

Got my first day of resort snow skiing in Tuesday 12/6/22 at Kirkwood. Snow quality off groomed runs was excellent mid winter skier packed powder. Last January's right shoulder rotator cuff injury that ended last season, was not an issue. The KW base was already a modest 49 inches so with this current dump, the whole mountain ought be able to open up. Expect to drive back up to ski Tuesday or Wednesday. Too much fun for an old guy.
