Thanks so much for this report! The Ram Lakes basin has similarly been on my "one of these days" list...and I think you just bumped it up a tad :)

I enjoyed the report and the photos, especially of the fish. I still remember how much I enjoyed eating the rainbow trout I caught out of Virginia Lake back in 1987.

Hey Matt, thanks for redirecting me back here, from your very fine Wanders With Trout website. You are very generous to us here at HST, where you only post cryptic indications of where you're at on your website-- thought it would be the other way around. Anyhow, I value these directions, since in fact, it IS a place where I can Wander With Dogs. I entered this area just once, from the odd angle NW from Pretty Pass, above Convict Creek. Had no idea it was a fishing destination. I really was baffled by the photos, and it makes sense, since I have only been near Duck Pass, from my journey along the SHR.

I'm glad you got there, and thankful for the inspiration. Thanks man, Ian.

p.s. Do you know... of course you do, that no fish can be taken and eaten after something like mid-Nov.? WTF? What am I supposed to eat, or do I do another foodless trip? I am dead keen to get back into the Sierra--just looking for the right place, where I can set up a cool basecamp, have a fire, fish maybe, if only for the fun of it, and climb up something.

This must be Virginia Lake?

But where is this? I think I was up around Duck Lake, but long, long time ago.

Same trip, is all I can say. Friends over, and I've had a few, so perhaps in the morning I'll recognize thse peaks, but I doubt it. Where are they Matt?! Did you pass these between Duck Lk., and Virginai? Okay, thanks again, Ian.
