I assume this was 5/28 last year? I also assume there are no "quotas" on the trails. Is overnight camping allowed?

Actually it was yesterday. My understanding is no permit system anywhere in France and no entrance fees.
There are restrictions on backcountry camping, trailhead signs note where “bivouac” is allowed. And there were a handful of people out with overnight gear.
