Lake conditions in Cottonwood Lakes area???

Post by John Harper »

I see there are some permits being issued for the Cottonwood Lakes area. Planning a trip June 5-8. Has anyone been up there, have the lakes cleared of ice? Camping at SF Lakes #1 for a couple nights, do a bit of flyfishing there. Teaching a friend to flyfish, hopefully get him a goldie.

Maybe I posted this in the wrong area?

I haven't been recently but from what recent reports the Horseshoe Meadow Road is still closed at the 2nd gate (1mi to TH) but I think it should be fully open by Memorial Day weekend. I think the lakes should be mostly thawed out by June with how little snow we got this year.

There was a recent regulation change for Cottonwood Lakes 1-4 changing the open season from Sep 1 - Nov 30 (pg 59) so you won't be able to fish those lakes while you are there. You could still fish Lake 5.

Just got back from there. Visited all the CW and SF lakes. All are clear of ice except for small parts of 3, 4, 5 and 6, which are only partially frozen. SF lakes are clear. By June they will be fully clear.
