Baxter Pass
I'm considering a backpacking trip this summer to 60 Lakes Basin via Baxter Pass with a couple buddies. Is there any decent camping spots between the TH & the pass? There's only three of us so we don't need a lot of space, but we do need to be relatively close to water.

Re: Baxter Pass
I descended from Baxter Pass one time and camped where the USGS topo map shows a tent symbol at 36.83372 N 118.35954 W @9980 feet el.
I recall some water there, but that depends on the season. There was a lot of brush that covers the trail in several places. So, if you look at the map, try to figure out where the trail ought to be. I recall some scorched rocks as if it had been used a lot. There is a lot of loose rock all around.

Re: Baxter Pass
There is good camping on the upper reaches of the trail before all the switchbacks up to the pass. The lower half of the trail was burned several years ago but the upper half is still pristine and gets little use compared to the other east side trails over the crest. Mount Mary Austin dominates the view there.
