Minaret lake trail questions.
I am planning a 2 day overnight to Minaret Lake. I was planning to acclimate at Johnston Lake. If I go further toward Minaret lake are there available places to camp?
Also is there available water sources along the Minaret Lake trail?
Thank You Solace Seeker.

Re: Minaret lake trail questions.
Been a while since I’ve been on that trail, but other than that one falls/cascade, I don’t remember the trail being that scenic. Just bust up to Minaret Lake in a day. Then you never have to move camp. Just grind it out, take some vitamin I at camp.
Minaret creek is accessible in places (especially when you cross it!) on the trail to Minaret lake. I wouldn’t worry about water.

Thanks for the reply. C9H
I am susceptible to Altitude sickness so I don't want to push myself too hard. I am going to stay in Mammoth the day before to help acclimate.
Thanks again.

Re: Minaret lake trail questions.
Yeah, I too start getting vommy above 11-12K. 8000 ft is airplane cabin pressure though, and Mammoth (~8K) is at the same altitude as Johnston Lake (8100'). Not sure you're getting much out of a stopover at Johnston. It'd be better to go on a strenuous walk in town the day you arrive, or get some other exercise. Hiking out to TJ lake would be worth your time. Less than 2 miles, and it'd get your body used to the thinner air faster.Solace-seeker wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 11:38 am Thanks for the reply. C9H

Re: Minaret lake trail questions.
Thank you for the excellent suggestion. I just looked at TJ lake and it looks like a perfect place to go for a day like to help acclimate.
I've never been there before and I am definitely planning to go.
Question. As for the Minaret lake trail, i was hoping to avoid the shuttle by arriving before 7am. Is there parking near Devils Postpile trailhead? If not, where does one park?
Thanks again for the great information

Yeah, there's parking there. You can see the lot on the satellite in Google Maps. It isn't a big lot tho.Solace-seeker wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 10:01 pm As for the Minaret lake trail, i was hoping to avoid the shuttle by arriving before 7am.
