His last paragraph sounds a bit arrogant.
He was an unofficial free-lance searcher looking into a 15 year old cold case, and was upset the Sheriff Office did not open their files to him? There are actually laws regarding that sort of thing.

I had the misfortune of working with the RMRU several times in the 1970's. They did not have a good reputation back then, and were generally regarded as little more than a weekend hiking-drinking club. I had hoped they had cleaned up their act since then and developed into a more professional SAR organization.

I thought I would read a paragraph or two and wound up going through to the end. I am a sucker for these sorts of mystery/SAR tales.

The one this quickly reminded me of was Galic's years-long effort to learn who the people were who were buried under the Rettenbacher plaque above Thousand Island Lake.
