Whitney Portal

I was supposed to do the MR with Quandary and Kim, but last weekend I did something to my knee and could hardly walk during the week. I spent a few hours with them at the Portal, then headed for Glass Mountain area to meet up with Astrohound and Beldar for some terracaching and easy peaks.

Hey there! Hope the knee is getting stronger again!
Great pics of Kelly and Slade! What a surprise! K is married to my good friend Aimee, with whom I used to paddle (outrigger)! Sheesh, had I known the 'boys' were heading up I would've ignored the weather reports!
Good times! Can't wait for this weekend!

Knee is getting better, still icing and saw chiro again Monday. Still not ready for any big hikes yet, maybe in a few weeks.
The picture of Slade was cute! Makes the pancake look that much bigger! He was pretty hyper, and kept going for the syrup!

Glass Mountain Ridge (11,123') - fall colors and winter conditions
PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/3537921#200186899
My original plans fell thru because of knee pain and muscle tightness. Astrohound mentioned this trip, and said they would be hiking slow and looking for obsidian. Storms were forecasted, but we went ahead with the plan for the weekend. It turned out to be an awesome hike with a mix of snow falling, clouds with no visibility, and blue skies with awesome lighting.

Antelope Mountain (7,617') - storming all around us but not where we were
PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/3544242#200980436
Astrohound left a terracache on Anteloope Mountain. We ended up going a different way than described in the book, making it 1.9 mi instead of 5 mi round trip. We drove the dirt road to see if it was 'impassable', and ended up where we wanted to be to get home. A short quick hike for a Sunday afternoon. Photos of the snow on the way home.
