Just a reminder to everyone that outside of public campgrounds may ever make a campfire or use a portable stove during the rest of this calendar year, to obtain a current annual California Campfire Permit. Note wilderness permits allow doing so limited per dates and areas within such a backcountry permit. That can be obtained at any NFS or BLM offices as well as more easily for free online per below that may be printed out. To do so one must first watch a short video and then take an online multiple choice, one that I aced and was glad to see it is a bit more thorough than in year's past.

And remember the annual campfire permit can be overridden by local conditions.

Higher taxes never reduce the deficit. Governments spend whatever they take in and then whatever they can get away with.

Yes this is more or less a no-campfire sort of year, which is too bad for cooking fish (in the places where campfires are usually allowed) given that grilling trout over the coals is still my favorite way of cooking them.
Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

HTNF is not part of Forest Service Region 5, which is the rest of California. HTNF is part of USFS Region 4, headquartered in Ogden UT.
OTOH USFS Region 5 also includes Hawaii.

Re: 2020 California Campfire Permit
The word "campfire" is defined to include stoves, such as a jetboil. So if you're planning to cook in the backcountry using a stove, get the permit. It's free and only takes a couple of minutes.
