Was up there maybe 35-40 years ago. A fun exploratory trip...I believe a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
Not sure how it might have changed over the years...probably picked over considerably until Underwood bought it.
There are other similar interesting old mining destinations in those mountains. Read up on Manson.

I hiked to the summit in June 2017. I knew the town went up for sale, but hadn't heard the outcome. Thanks for the link to that story on the new owner. At the time I was there, you had to check in at the town's little store, sign a liability waiver, and pay $10 to walk up the road to the summit. The peak is on the Sierra Club's Great Basin Peaks List. Here's the SummitPost page:
