The population is only 408,000 people, comprised of Mestizos, Mayans, Garifuna, Creole, Ex-Pats and surprisingly; Mennonites. Every local we met was super friendly and helpful. And while the food is neither fancy nor complicated (a lot of rice and beans), everything we ate was fresh, delicious and (mostly) healthy.
