Looking at the topo, one can see that snowfield on the south side of lower Davis that in late August 1980 reached all the way steeply into the lake. I spent quite some time pounding out foot steps in the hard icy snow. Upon reaching the 11052 outlet then traversed around the northwest side of 12434 then south through all the no name lakes on the barren plateau before dropping down to 11184 then Martha. Thus more direct and much less vertical. From the north side Davis route might need to drop down to 10900 if the shoreline didn't go. The next morning caught a 15 inch golden on a #16 Adams.

To add a smidge of info to the above, I went from Martha to Davis to the Evolution region on a day in 1994. The south shore of Davis from where our Martha Lake route touched down (see below) eastward to the inlet side was easy but we sure didn't catch anything (nor see anything) in our many fruitless casts into that side of the lake (only years later did we hear what about what we missed at Davis; we saw what we missed out on at Martha, in contrast). Our route from Martha to Davis is indeed intricate but not overly difficult. The north end of our route aimed E of the north limit of SSSDave's topo excerpt. We skirted the N shore of the lake SE of pt 12438/12434 then headed through the 2nd saddle E of 12438 (this is the sadddle W of 12913) then we dropped to Davis east of the knob 11440+ that rises above the south shore of Davis at its "inside corner". From there our route eastward was trivial. The route from Martha was class 2 without any of the talus getting to the unpleasantly steep and loose level of things. Route finding was not as intricate as wandering around Ionian Basin (where there are so many small cliffs that don't show well on topo). As noted by others, though, all of this applies only if one wants to make Martha Lake part of the trip.
