I hiked Roper's Sierra High Route, Chapter 1, in September of 2016. I just recently put together a report on the trip. We traveled from Road's End in Kings Canyon, to Bishop Pass. Here is the report:

Thanks! I enjoyed reading about your adventure with your son. My favorite section on the SHR was the one I did with my 30 yr old daughter.

A great report, thanks so much for sharing! I especially appreciated how thoroughly you catalogued the roller coaster of emotions that accompanied the route -- I've experienced all of the same emotions when traveling cross-country, but I don't think I do nearly as good of a job at chronicling this very real aspect of offtrail travel as you did. Kudos!
P.S. how big did those trout in Barrett Lake look? It's hard to tell the perspective in your photo -- they could either be tiny or they could be monsters!

What a gripping story! I was up to the point of you about to start frozen lake pass – the climax, it seems - when I had to go grill some brats for dinner. I finally got back to it later that evening. By the way, I'm pretty sure you were supposed to be carrying bear canisters.
