smoke and fires
Has anybody headed into the Emigrant wilderness via crabtree since the Dardanelle fire started ? How is the smoke ? Should I even bother going this weekend ? Thanks

Re: smoke and fires
The Donnell Fire started just 7 days ago, already at over 13,000 acres and only 5% contained, Emigrant is probably the last place you want to go right now. 108 is still closed at Eagle Meadow Road from the west and at the top of Sonora Pass.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

I agree with maverick. I wanted to do a hike there on Monday and went part way up, but there was just no way. The Donnell fire is now at 17,941 acres and 4% contained.

yes I'm aware of the size , scope and all, I've been following it closely. Just wondered if anyone has been there . Thanks for the responses. I may go north , to the Mokelumne area. I'll check with the rangers there.

On Monday I went up 108 and turned off at 4N26 (Crabtree Road), but didn't continue. As I said, there was just no way. The smoke was very very thick.

Adequate sources for smoke information is on this HST dedicated thread.

Or just look at the current day's satellite image. Well unless one cannot make sense of maps.
