Dried hummus is another thing we often have.

I've had it a few times. Just make sure to bring olive oil for it and use more than the instructions call for. A good way to get a lot of fat calories in a tasty way. I made the mistake of bringing along coconut oil once though and that was a disaster as it was hard when I went to make some hummus on night one of the hike. Chunky hummus - not so good.RSC wrote:Dried hummus is another thing we often have.

Dried hummus with olive oil mixed in... great. I used to prepare it for a dinner appetizer when I led group trips thirty years ago. I would prepare it spread out on an aluminum pie tin. Then over the top, I sprinkled (green) dill powder in a circle on top, and (red-orange) turmeric powder in a smaller circle on top. Then dip with crackers. That was a great appetizer that went with some adult liquid refreshment for happy hour.

I bought a couple of the Bison bars from Epic. I took one bite out of one of them. Then I spit it out. The rest of it and the other bar went into the compost bin.
Truly nasty in my opinion. A chub of high quality salami is a much better choice if you're in the meat eating mode.

The only epic bar that I haven't found disgusting (due to adding cranberries and all sorts of other garbage that shouldn't be in jerky) are the Venison bars. Those are pretty tasty, albeit a bit on the dry side. Epic has some waygu beef strips that are pretty good, but they're pretty spendy for what they are. I only pick them up when they are on sale.
The country archer frontier bars - cayenne w/ beef & pork are pretty good. The BBQ pork bar has a weird aftertaste and the citrus turkey just sounds gross. The cayenne w/ beef & pork is pretty tasty. A little bit of spice, but not overwhelming. https://www.countryarcher.com/collectio ... -with-pork
I used to get the Starkist Mediterranean style tuna packets. Tuna with sun dried tomatoes and olive oil - but all of the markets around me have stopped carrying it. I would mix it with some karen's spicy just veggies, cous cous and half a bullion cube and let it re-hydrate in my pot. That was one of my goto backpacking meals until I couldn't find the tuna packets any longer.

I'm not a fan of the Epic bar. I'll take some good salami or jerky.
