Hmm. I never sleep well even at home. I can get 4hrs and then become fully awake. I decided that it is what it is. If I get tired after 3hrs I'll go back to bed for another 3hrs. The best sleep I've had was on my last trip out of Tuolumne to Vogelsang area. I was solo so I didn't have to share a tent. I slept for a solid 9hrs the first night and 7hrs the second. The flat campsite on the first night made a huge difference, too.

I travel to the Sierra from the east coast and I try to stay on eastern time. So when it's 9 pm in the sierra (IOW, dark) it's midnight to me. I don't have a problem going to sleep or sleeping in the sierra. Of course the normal things apply....comfy pad and bag, level ground.

I find it really peaceful to sleep on a trip. Yeah, we now use neo-airs, and that makes a difference. But mountain air, exercise and the wind in the trees always lets me sleep. We're in bed early, and nod off well before ten--probably closer to nine. And while I may wake up for 45 minutes in the night, I just lie there and listen to the music of the mountains. Pretty soon I'm back asleep again.

A reasonably comfy pad and some kind of pillow.
These days I need a little help from my friends as well. Current regimen includes 5 mg melatonin and Advil PM. Also bring a few muscle relaxers just in case. Don't take them unless absolutely necessary, as they keep me in a fog for a couple of hours after waking.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

We all know but y'all might not. Haha
Older - harder to sleep
Higher elevation - harder to sleep.
I have a sleep disorder and usually sleep well but only with help.
Sleeping pills are physically habit forming and cannibas is not supposed to be.
I never liked weed but I now like it in order to sleep enough.
As time passes I need to eat a little bit more cannibas each week or month.
It works better if once a week I take the sleeping pill.

I used to have difficulty sleeping well when backpacking. 3 things solved it for me:

1. A good inflatable sleeping pad. I finally settled on Klymit Static V. It works for me as a side sleeper even if it's a bit heavy.

2. An inflatable pillow. I know, it's kind of wimpy, but this made a huge difference. I used to try to improvise a pillow from clothes/stuff sack but it never worked well. It's worth the extra few ounces.

3. Weed (Indica) in liberal amounts once I set up camp and settle down. This one is key :D

Higher taxes never reduce the deficit. Governments spend whatever they take in and then whatever they can get away with.

Similar here but prefer a good Sativa instead.

Was under the impression that a Sativa would keep you alert and social, unless your talking a hybrid, Sativa dominant.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
