Real sierraphile quality home-dried Cajun Bean Soup in the Jetboil Sumo here, sunset at camp atop Sharktooth Creek, overlooking Cascade Valley to the east.
Late morning Saturday August 5, 2017 with Red and White Mountain at frame right in the background. A bit after noon the day before experienced the worst hail event in a thunderstorm over my 4+ decades in the Sierra. In a period of about 40 minutes, a solid 4 plus inches covered the ground.
Afterwards not a wildflower in the zone had survived and lots of shredded vegetation and blasted pine needles covered areas of the whiteness.
The next above image was from Tuesday September 5 at Tomahawk Lake. A wonderfully protected by whitebark pines and boulder spot in a zone that is otherwise campsite poor. Both my 7 day Laurel Creek and 10 day Humphreys Basin backpacks were plagued by stormy skies and thunderstorms. Trip story:
new favorite camp site around the Silver Divide - not the camp itself (carry your water up there), but because of the view from just a few steps behind the camera location in this image. Not a recommended site if T-storms are in the area
