Patagonia is on my "must see" list. But in the meantime, similar scenery closer to home is in the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. I guess you could call these areas the "poor mans Patagonia".
How did the fianancial uncertainty in Argentina impact you? I worry about getting down there and then within weeks having my money worth something entirely different. Did you reserve all your lodging ahead of time?

We did make all the reservations beforehand, and didn't have a single problem. Everything was flawless.
The only issue was that in El Chalten nobody accepted credit cards...So we brought dollars and also used an ATM there. But it had a limit of about $100/day...
