"On this proud and beautiful mountain we have lived hours of fraternal, warm and exalting nobility. Here for a few days we have ceased to be slaves and have really been men. It is hard to return to servitude."
-- Lionel Terray
Problem for me is that there is no one slower that is still backpacking!
You don't need to be constantly hiking together, set a meet-up/camping spot ahead of time along with your route, the other person can go fishing, photograph, or climb a peak until you get there. But your good company OR, so who needs to be in a rush.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Hiking separate kind of misses the point! When I hike with my son, even off trail we are mostly hiking separately. About the time I start swearing where the f....... is he ! there he is leaning against a rock or a tree waiting for me, sometimes asleep!

Who can't do everything he used to and what he can do takes a hell of a lot longer!
