Bagged Highland and Silver starting and ending from the PCT at Ebbets pass. Longer climbs than expected, even given the directions on SummitPost and Pete's directions. Also, the Noble Canyon trail is pretty wonky
From PCT Southbound, climbed the SW shoulder of Highland and then traversed to Silver Peak. As in Bob Burd's directions, I descended via loose gravel shoots directly to the Noble Canyon trail and then took this back to the parking lot. Fun but tiring day
13 miles, 6,200' climbing - round trip
Early views
Climbing to early false (false) summit
Short scramble up the false summit
Finally views of Highland (and Silver)

Somehow I still haven't hiked nor camped at all from HWY 4 area. I've been meaning to get up to Highland and Silver for years. Thanks for the reminder that it is worth a visit.

One must always take Bob Burd's directions with a grain of salt or more specifically understand that he is not human.
I read his report as well. It is important to note the two mere earthly humans (Ray and Steve) with him on this trip bailed and turned back at the false summit south of Highland.
Don't get me wrong. I am not saying Bob Burd is a raw flesh eating Reptile Alien. I am just saying he can't be human. You draw your own conclusions.
