Sunrise sequence. Mammoth Peak is a good late June subject early or late from the Tuolumne Meadows overflow meadow ponds on days with clear air and high clouds taking color as the snow at this time of early summer readily reflects sky hues.
NWS forecast is showing unusually low breezes this weekend in the Central Sierra though skies will be clear sunny unlike last weekend. Thus a boon for close-up photography subjects. Saturday sunrise will drive into the park then work areas along SR120 as early wildflowers will now be out in force along highway areas. Roadside deep forest areas vast numbers of visitors just speed by as though they hold little value. Especially nice are roadside areas through granite slab areas of the beautiful magenta hued, mountain pride penstemon. Areas east of Gin Flat before the South Fork of the Tuolumne River bridge hold fine areas of dense broadleaf lupine and shooting stars that ought to be coming into an early season peak.
Later in pm plan to park west of Pothole Dome then hike out to dome 9083 for snowy landscapes north of the Cathedral Range and to south towards Glen Aulin the stretch of whitewater Tuolumne while river is still high from peak snowmelt.
