Re: Trinity Alps / Mt Ashland
Thanks for the report, Willy! I was planning to head exactly there this weekend. Guessing you didn't go up to Boulder Creek while you were out there? Also, how was crossing Canyon Creek?

Thank you for coming back and giving us an update on the current conditions.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Re: Trinity Alps / Mt Ashland
Maiathebee - I did not but i did go scope out the crossing to get to boulder creek lakes and its totally doable. knee deep at most and the water is pretty calm where you would cross.
There was a couple people that went up to boulder creek lakes, i didnt ask them for conditions up there but looks doable. From what i could see the the lake area and the area above the waterfall where you cross the ravine is most likely going to be covered in snow.
The canyon creek crossing at the outlet was no problem, there are downed logs and some sort of metal cylinder that you can walk across with out getting your feet wet.
The bear creek crossing in the beginning is also only knee deep but you could jump from rock to rock (which i did and hit my knee... no hops)
lets see what else..... there are some deadfall here and there. I had to backtrack once or twice when i lost the trail but nothing too bad. Just keep an eye out and itll be pretty obvious.
will post pics when i get a chance

maiathebee - sorry this is the best i got. looking backwards towards mt hilton / boulder creek area. Boulder creek lakes would be at the base of the snowy peak.

Re: Trinity Alps / Mt Ashland
Weather was crappy over the weekend, so I postponed until Tu-Wed 5/9-10/2016 and the weather was ideal! Had a great time taking my dog on her first ever backpacking trip! Decided against Boulder Creek Lakes when I saw where the snow line was. Crossing Canyon Creek with the pup was not fun, but we made it both times. I had Upper Canyon Creek Lake to myself for camp. Saw a couple on their way out when I headed in, a group of guys camped around the upper falls, and a couple dayhikers. It's a pretty great canyon to have all to oneself! Perfect early-season hike to shake off the winter stiffness. Here are a couple photos.
