High Sierra Topix

Hello

We're hoping to do a hike from Onion Valley over Kearsarge and Glen Pass via Rae Lakes then out at Roads End in July/August 2013. Or, other way around. Issue is, we won't have a car, and have not been to Sequioa National Park before, not really sure what we will find! Is there much traffic along this road, is hitching an option, does anyone know of any RELIABLE shuttle providers in that area OR is there an easy trail to the main (Lodgepole) area where we could catch a shuttle to Visalia...

I have had success with hitching rides so it is an viable option.
No trail options either unless your willing to add on +35 miles onto you trip, which is
not a bad thing if you have the time and the energy.

Depending on which month you're there, the Cedar Grove area can be busy with campers and hikers. LOts of family groups use the campgrounds around there.

You could try getting a ride from other backpackers hiking out the same day that you are.

Roads End TH is pretty remote and is not included as a stop on then Sequoia park shuttle. There's no easy trail to get to the other parts of the park.

You will most likely get a ride, but be prepared for a wait. A backpacking friend and I, so two women with backpacks waited almost 2 hours for someone to pick us up up from Road's End. There was lots of traffic (it was late August) but no one seemed to want to stop in the park. Or else they stopped to tell us they had no room in their vehicle for us and our packs.
