upper kern basin
just got back last weekend from a 2 week trip into the upper kern basin w/ my 14 year old son...
it was great.
here is a slideshow:

went in over kearsarge, then forester. the fishing in bullfrog lake is just spectacular. the upper ken basin is just as it has always been - nice and quiet. we had 1 small thunderstorm one day that dave us some light snowfall. my kidd loved it. went back out the same way we came in but did a minor loop to visit lake south america. i could have easily spent another 5 days there.
my next trip is coming up... going to do tehiphite valley via bishop pass.
the current plan it to hike up out of tehipite to crown valley and then begin the cross country run to tunemah lake, goddard creek, ionian basin & connect back up to the muir trail near black giant and then head on back to south lake. well, that's the goal anyways. i have been to ionian basin many times but never to tunemah. since it's in one of the lonliest parts of the sierra, makes it that much more appealing.
it was great.

Like they said
"On this proud and beautiful mountain we have lived hours of fraternal, warm and exalting nobility. Here for a few days we have ceased to be slaves and have really been men. It is hard to return to servitude."

Wonderful photos of one of my favorite places in the Sierra, which means one of my favorite places on earth. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.

Really great pics which gives me really good memories of the 3 times I went there (upper Kern). I never went to South America (my loss) among many great on trail destinations to which I didn't go (again my loss). Back then the only reason I was on trail was to get off trail.

Awesome shots - I just got back from that area, you captured it perfectly. We didn't get snow but it sure was cold enough!
