I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org

As an addendum to this 5/7 Road Status Update, it is worth noting that there is no longer a need for the lengthy detour of the Whitney Portal Road through the magnificent rock structures in the Alabama Hills. The portion of the Whitney Portal Road that was washed out a couple seasons ago has been repaired and is open.

BTW, at Whitney Portal, full food service began this morning at the Whitney Portal Store (8360'). The Whitney Portal (Us Forest Service) Family Campground (8000') opens tomorrow.

Looking forward to the upcoming season in the High Sierras, Jim
