Scotch Guard - does it work?

I have a very used rain jacket that I love (of course, not sold anymore). I bought some Scotch Guard and sprayed it, hoping I can get a few more trips out of the jacket. The inner lining shows no holes, tears, or breakdown/ same with the outer layer. Has anyone used Scotch Guard with any success?

Scotch Guard works, but not to perfection. It washes off in a heavy rain. You probably do not want to use it on a Goretex garment, since it would tend to crud up the pores, and then the fabric might not breathe at all, which defeats the purpose of Goretex. Also, you probably do not want to use it on a garment that is underneath Goretex.

Careful with Scotch Guard! It's the original forever chemical.
