YNP:
Little compares to standing at Glacier Point, enveloped in the sweeping view of Yosemite Valley and the Sierra crest. The noble giant Half Dome is the centerpiece of this panoramic vista and observing from 3,214 feet above Yosemite Village can make one feel one with the birds and clouds.
Conditions permitting, Glacier Point Road will reopen to vehicles on Tuesday, May 14, at 8 am. This is great news for those happy to take in the views, but options for hikers are limited — trails leaving from Glacier Point Road are still very snowy; Sentinel Dome and Taft Point trails are entirely covered, with no visible trail. Hikers should be prepared with appropriate gear and for route finding including cross-country navigation using GPS, with a map and compass for backup. Four Mile trail remains closed from Glacier Point to below Union Point due to hazardous snow conditions.
Lap up the scenery AND bring plenty of drinking water as it is not yet available at Glacier Point. There are vault toilets open.
