I really enjoyed "High Sierra Quarry" Paul. Every time Dan is out in the field I eat up those chapters. Good medicine for a heavy snow year delaying my backpacking plans.

Hey, I have a plot idea for you. How about Dan dealing with a threat to Fred Leighton's check dams? It might make for a good story. Something like the governor is camping at Camp Yellowhammer to relive his trips from decades ago. The bad guy has a long time grudge over water policy and tries to breach the dam at Leighton Lake in a revenge/assasination attempt. You can cover wilderness ethics, environmental impact, the perequisite murder etc. Not that it would actually work but literary license gives you a lot of freedom.

Steve Bowman's book, "Leighton's High Sierra Check Dam Legacy" is a good resource for background material. I have a copy...
