Another sign that winter is coming; our Tuolumne Meadows winter rangers have arrived for the season! For the first time in their twelve years at Yosemite, they were able to ski all the way from the Lee Vining area! For these snow lovers, it was a welcome "commute" back home. Check out their first teaser of the season in the following blog post, with more regular posts coming soon: https://www.nps.gov/.../update-for-december-14-2022.htm

Every winter I love reading Laura and Rob's posts and looking at the photos. If the above link does not work, you can try this one:

Some years ago, the Tioga Pass Resort was functioning as a winter hostel. A bunch of us parked our vehicles at "the gate." TPR had one 4WD vehicle kept on the uphill side of the gate, so they were able to pick us up and drive us up to "Camp Nine," which is around 9000 feet on the road. Then TPR had a snow machine with trailer to meet us and haul our heavy packs up to TPR. We donned our X-C skis and skied up to TPR for a night. It looked just like that photo above. On the following day, we skied with packs up and over to Tuolumne Meadows, spent a couple of nights there, and then returned to TPR and eventually back down to our vehicles. It was great seeing the Tuolumne Meadows rangers there in winter, and we all wished that we could live that way.
