Little Lakes Valley / Mosquito Flats trailhead - parking

Post by westmatt »

Am I going to have a parking problem here, arriving late afternoon on a Sunday for a Monday a.m. Mono Pass departure? Also - I thought I'd read somewhere that there is a backpacker's campground at the trailhead, but I am having trouble finding that information again - can sleep in the car if necessary. Just looking for more things I can worry about, I guess.

Here is the National Forest web page with info on the campground:
https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/inyo/re ... ecid=20390

You can see the campground (labeled and everything) on Google Earth if you search on “Mosquito Flats walk-in campground”; you have to walk a few yards from end of road, and then walk across a bridge (across Rock Creek) to reach it.

Sorry, I can’t give you any prediction on the parking.

In my experience, the parking lot begins clearing out about 4:00. The Mosquito Flat Campground is a one of my favorites. If you want a treat after your trip, stop in at Rock Creek Lake Resort and get a piece of Sue's pie. Also, their burgers are pretty good.
I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.

Thank you both, I found the campground on the map, and appreciate the info on parking, that should do the trick.

Yeah, parking lot is usually very full in the morning, but does clear out quite a bit in the afternoon. I would expect no problems if you're arriving anytime after 3pm or so
