Who's been up to Tuolumne/Ellery/Saddlebag? How's the smoke?
Leaving tomorrow for what's supposed to be a 3-4 day photo trip to 20 lakes basin/Shepherd's Crest, and haven't heard a thing about the smoke from the Fergusen Fire.
I hate having to resort to a plan B, but I'd love to know before we go.
Thanks!

WE were in Lyell Canyon two days ago--no smoke at all. Didn't even know there was a fire until we got to Olmsted Point. But it all depends on the direction of the wind...

As you can see in this link, smoke is effecting that area too, but this can change on a dime depending on the wind directions.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Just make sure you change the dates at the top, otherwise you will get smoke readings from another, earlier date.Whoa! How cool is THAT? Thanks for the link!

Got back on Saturday evening after three days in the TLB.maverick wrote:Just make sure you change the dates at the top, otherwise you will get smoke readings from another, earlier date.Whoa! How cool is THAT? Thanks for the link!
Smoke wasn't an issue, but rain, thunder and lightning were, each day, keeping us in the tent for a very long time.
Friday afternoon was the worst, and we had the single worst thunder/lightning storm I've ever had to ride out, w/rain for 5 hours straight and thunder/lightning directly overhead for 3 straight hours. We were up above Shamrock lake.
Wife took some video of it from inside the tent and I'll try and upload it.

I drove west through Tuolumne Meadows on Saturday afternoon, and it was smoky. When I got to Olmsted Point, I could not see past the parking lot.

Got up to Saddlebag/TLB loop at 10am on Friday. Not bad and pretty darn clear considering. By 1pm when on the return (aka almost at the dam), you couldn't see Mt Dana.
