John Muir Trail

I was out along one portion of the John Muir Trail. I had started from the east side over Piute Pass, then joined the JMT after 16 miles, continuing north to Mammoth. Mosquitos were a problem for two of my three nights out. They were so bad that I had to cook inside my shelter. The stream crossings within Piute Canyon were very wet. Once northbound on the JMT, the stream crossings got mostly better. I think that the Forest Service has different priorities, so they get support to accommodate the many southbound JMT hikers and the few northbound PCT hikers. Bear Creek was wet, up on my pants pockets. Mono Creek was wet above the bridge. The crossings seemed to get easier as I got closer to Mammoth.
