Alta meadow backpacking mid may ?

hi all!
I am looking forward a 2 nighter at alta meadow mid-end may, before permit season begins. Never camped there so I was wondering if you had possibly some advice... I am an intermediary backpacker. I am not geared up for snow camping, but cold should be fine. Is it too early in the season ? Alta meadow seems to be a 9000 feet that is pretty high, am I going to hike to a thick ice plate ? I will study snowpack as we get closer of course.
Basic idea is to set camp on day1, go for alta peak on day 2, and come down the mountain on day 3.
Also, I think I saw a wood fire on a youtube video there, is there a legal fire ring there ? (wondering if that is not above the altitude limit for wood fire anyways)
thank you for your advice always,
Satchel

SEKI NP Minimum Impact Restrictions:
In Sequoia National Park west of the Great Western Divide campfires are not allowed above 9,000 feet. East of the Great Western Divide fires are not allowed above 10,000 feet.
They are legal in the southern part of the meadow.

May will be to early.

Here is a TR from 2016, low snow year, from the end of May: http://hikinginsocal.blogspot.com/2016/ ... tempt.html
