As some of us wait for the snow to melt and the skeeters to abate, our dogs will be under attack tonight. Thought this little tidbit might help..

In our rural neighborhood we expect, and usually get, blasted with illegal fireworks. It's still early, but so far it has been blissfully quiet, maybe having the 4th on a Tuesday isn't so bad after all.

It sounds like a war zone around here and still going.

Los Angeles sounded like Operation Shock & Awe last night; feel bad for the pups.

We used to live out in the country. About 15 years ago around midnight on the 4th, one neighbor set off a stick of dynamite. Our house shook like an earthquake had hit. A different neighbor's dog ran away and was lost for days. A window in the house of another neighbor was cracked.

Yeah, I feel for the pups, but feel more for the 102 people (15 fatally) who were shot during the 4th of July weekend in Chicago. :(

Chicago is a different problem. I'm kind of numb to that kind of violence if they can't control themselves. We had the same war zone thing going on here in "peaceful" Petaluma. I went to bed at 10pm, and the fireworks just went on, and on, and on.

People can make choices; Dogs generally cannot make choices.
