Spent 4 magical days Sept. 6-9 setting a base camp at Lady Lakes. Joined on this trip by my wife and our 27 year old son. He of course hiked the old folks into the ground. But an outstanding time was had by all. No mosquitos but tons of yellow jacket wasps. Annoying but tolerable. Glorious weather, perhaps the mountain gods' way of rewarding us for two miserable trips into the same area a year ago around this time.

Memo to self- if you insist on almost slicing off a finger, ensure you travel with a registered nurse and an EMT. Their first aid skills will be invaluable!
My latest brain cramp.

Second memo to self- When pounding in tent stakes, stop when you hit heavy resistance. Pounding fully into a tree root only leads to stupidity in trying to dig the stake out with a knife that slips and leads to the need for memo #1.
