FYI-
Anyone passing through the Independence area?
Stop by the Court House Motel, HST member recieve a discount.
My father-in-law recently (July 2005) purchased the Court House Motel in Independence, CA.

I spoke with him last week and he agreed to give a "Hikers Discount" to member of HST. He has a lot of PCT through-hikers in the summer, who started the "Hikers Discount" and wants to keep a good thing going. You are also able to use the laundry ($3.00 a load), the BBQ facilities, and the Onion Valley Trailhead is only minutes away.
Just letting you know,

Hey, really good to know. Thank him for us. We've stayed there a number of times on our way in or out of Kearsarge. It's an OK motel, though you want the rooms away from the highway... .
And, while you're staying there in beautiful Independence, be sure to have dinner at The Still Life -- 3 doors south of the Post Office. Looks just like a storefront burger place, but is a truly outstanding French restaurant. Don't be in a hurry 'cause their new motto is "Still Waiting? Still Life" Really. But it's worth the wait. Get a bottle of wine and it doesn't matter.

Is this still the case? I stayed there last January and spoke with the owner. It was a woman, but I can't remember her name. She said she had just bought the motel. Maybe jdub can clear this up.

Her name is Rosetta, she used to own the B&B next door. My father in law sold the Court House Inn to her this past fall. I am not sure if the discount still applies, but it should, she has been very friendly to hikers in the past.
I will investigate further and post back with more info.
