6/29: Upper Cathedral Lake- marble sized hail, mosquitos: 0-1
6/30: Sunrise HSC- pea sized hail, mosquitos: 1-2
7/1: Clouds Rest/JMT junction: mosquitos 1, rats 2
7/2: Clouds Rest/JMT junction: mosquitos 2, rats 1
7/3: Babcock Lake: mosquitos 2, 3-4 at dusk/dawn
pretty nice during the day, heavier in the evening. helping folks through AMS and monsoon flows put us in less desirable territory most of the trip.
South Lake - Long Lake - Ruwau - Chocolate Lakes 7/2-7/4

Just returned from a casual weekend tooling around Long Lake, Ruwau, and Chocolate Lakes. Except for the skeeter-free bliss of windy moments, we remained in firm "3" territory the whole time. DEET kept 'em at bay at dawn and dusk, but I didn't feel it was needed the rest of the time...with the exception of a midday cathole excursion or two.

7/3 - Saddlebag Lake, Conness Lakes: 1 (morning)
7/3 - Roosevelt Lake: 1-2 (afternoon, evening)
7/4 - South of Conness, NW of Upper Young Lake: 1 (morning)
7/4 - Skelton lakes basin: 1-2 (afternoon, evening)
7/5 - Delaney Creek drainage: 3-4 (morning)
7/5 - Gaylor Lakes: 2 (morning)
7/5 - Spuller Lake: 1-2 (afternoon)
All in all, very low for this time of year. Only bad bit was the woods between Delaney Creek south of Lower Skelton Lake and Lower Gaylor Lake--had an entourage of a couple dozen mosquitoes chasing us the entire way. Was much better at the lakes themselves.
Other than that, where mosquitos were present, their density dropped to zero or near zero very quickly with elevation or distance from water. None were encountered over passes/peaks. At our campsites, evening mosquitos were light and not very aggressive. We did not use a bug net with our tarp (in early July!), and it wasn't bad. We had permethrin on clothing and occasionally used a picaridin lotion, but DEET didn't come out of it's bag.

Mosquitoes were really never an issue over the 3 days, perhaps a 1.
We did have permethrin treated clothes and picaradin o though and there were some nice breezes. The flies were a bigger issue and in some places prevented us from stopping but deet and a head net worked great and we enjoyed the whole trip.
Cecile-Ediza-Shadow lakes, 5-July

Lake Ediza and higher actually had a nice breeze, so mosquitoes were tolerable. Below tree line, Shadow Creek was pretty unbearable. I’m still finding bug guts in weird places.

In general, a 2. A 3 if you're in a shady wooded area.
Creek was still flowing, but there were stagnant pools here and there.
Twice encountered biting ants.
McGee Creek, Pioneer Basin, and Hopkins Pass 6/29 - 7/3

Camped at Steelhead lake, one of the upper Pioneer basin lakes, Lower Hopkins, and Big McGee Lake. Mosquitos were a 2 at all of the campsites and 3-4 in the lower elevations where we didn't want to stop long enough to find out.
Bishop Pass to Dusy Basin 7/6-7/7

I just did an overnight trip from South Lake near Bishop—over Bishop Pass to the first (unnamed) lake in Dusy Basin. Camped at the lake. 2 at the lake from when it started getting dark, then for a couple of hours maybe, and they went to bed when it cooled off enough. 0 the rest of the day.
