6/26-6/29 Green Creek TH-> Gilman Lake-> Summit Lake-> Virginia Pass-> West Lake
We had some rain on the 26th which kept them at bay for a few days but they are back to 4 levels now and I talked to the other backcountry rangers (one was around Peeler Lake out of the Robinson Creek TH and the other was out of the Leavitt Meadows TH) and they both said the mosquitos were horrible. I think that Green Lake tends to stay breezy because it's in the middle of the drainage which can act like a wind tunnel so they didn't seem quite so bad there but our trail crew who was up at Gilman Lake told me that even up there which isn't far from Green at all it was pretty nasty.

Experienced similar between Green Lake and Virginia Pass, 6/27. 3-4 on way down in afternoon. Not so bad on the way up, though.

June 27>30, Convict Creek from lake at 7.6k to downstream of Mildred Lake 9960 a 1. At Mildred Lake and long meadow above 1-2. Genevieve, Edith, Cloverleaf lakes, 1 early morning 1-2 mid day and 2-3 evening but some wet places mid day out of breeze 3. Above Mildred in huge meadow at mid day we hiked around in shorts t-shirt, laid out on slabs after taking refreshing dips, without any bites even though a few were around in the evening. We camped a couple nights near a lake with a wet swampy meadow nearby so they visited in evenings but by mid-night were gone.

Over 4 days I got bit once or twice each day usually on the top of my hands, a couple times in the back through t-shirt, and once through the netting of my tent into my scalp when my head was against the netting. Wore long pants, nylon shell, cap with neck drape anytime sqeets got to a 2. Put on DEET a few times though most of the time were not enough to bother with. Overall were little bother.

Long, hot slog to the first log crossing - 1
Pine Lake to Upper Pine Lake - 3/4 (most intense in the Upper Pine Lake area)
Honeymoon Lake - 3 (only got really pesky at dusk)
Granite Park - 1/2 (windy enough that they weren't noticeable)
Above Granite Park toward Italy Pass - 1 (windy)

Lake Sabrina -> Blue Lake: 1 (0 below roughly 9700 ft. both days)
Blue Lake -> Midnight Lake: 3

Emigrant 7/2-7/6
Varied between a 2 and 3 most places from Crabtree to Louse Canyon. Maybe a little worse near water. Only a 2 around the main fork of Cherry Creek and nearby lakes.

Little Lakes Valley 7/5-7/6

3/4 - Was fine during the middle of day when not too close to the water. But in the evening and early morning we got swarmed whenever we were near any water, which was most of the trail.

This report covers Kearsarge Pass to JMT to Bubbs Creek to East Lake trails.

East Lake - 3 (not swarming, but relentless especially in late afternoon to early evening)
Vidette Meadow - 3 (relentless during any stops longer than 2 minutes)
Kearsarge Basin (near Bullfrog Lake) - 2-3
Onion Valley and above: 0-1 depending on time of the day, most attacks near Gilbert and Matlock lakes

Dusk/Dawn: 3-4 it was pretty bad, ended up with at least 20-30 bites (didnt use deet, just lemon eucalyptus repel)
During the day there was a nice breeze and all the mosquitoes were gone.
Headnets are a great idea out there.
