SUMMIT FIRE UDATED ACREAGE BASED ON INFARED FLIGHT - The Summit Fire on the Amador Ranger District is 22 acres, 20% contained. Updated acreage is based on more accurate mapping by an infared flight last night, not a significant change in fire size. Today, crews will be completing fireline construction around the perimeter of the fire and securing the perimeter.

TRAILS SAFETY ADVISORY: A safety advisory is in effect for three trails that extend into the fire area. Closures for portions of these trails will be going into effect soon.

Extreme winds pushed the Tamarack Fire across US 395 yesterday afternoon, leading to an intense battle to protect communities last night, which continues today. Operations Section Chief Pat Seekins has an update those efforts, and the status of all areas of the fire in this Operations Briefing.

Attention - Topaz residents.
The Mono County Sheriff was just informed by the Tamarack Fire IC that the fire has reached the area west of 395 close to the Mono County line.
The Mono County Sheriff is recommending that residents of Topaz prepare to possibly evacuate. Ensure that medications, pet food, and important documents are packed.

SUMMIT FIRE UPDATE - 22 acres, 35% contained, fireline completed, interior hotspots being extinguished
Personnel: 105

Operations: There is fireline around the entire perimeter and heat has been extinguished to create a 10 foot buffer around the fire. Crews are continuuing to extinguish heat within the interior of the fire footprint using portable water systems. Helicopters are also dropping water on hotspots. The objective is to extinguish all heat within the fire perimeter.

Remarks: Maps from the infared flight last night show greatly reduced heat in the Summit Fire interior. One crew has been demobilized. Portable 56 gallon water containers delivered by helicopter are being used for fire suppression operations in this remote wilderness location.

Peak Fire Update 7/23

The Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service and Kern County Fire Department are in Unified Command on the Peak Fire, which has burned approximately 2,096 acres of grass and brush south of Lake Isabella between Walker Basin and the Kern River Valley, near the community of Havilah. This wildland fire is 32% contained.

SUMMIT FIRE EMERGENCY TRAILS CLOSURE ORDER - Summit Fire is 90% contained and is now a Type 4 incident. A safety advisory is in effect for three trails that extend into the fire area. The Summit Fire Emergency Trails Closure Order 03-21-13 will go into effect on Monday, July 26, 2021 closing portions of three trails in fire area as follows:
1. Forest Trail No. 17E21 (Horse Canyon Trail) from its intersection with 17E24 (Carson Emigrant N.R.T.) continuing south to its terminus at Forest Trail No. 18E13 (Camp Irene Trail).
2. Forest Trail No. 17E24 (Carson Emigrant N.R.T.) from its intersection with Forest Trail No. 17E31 continuing east to its intersection with Forest Trail No. 17E21 (Horse Canyon Trail).
3. Forest Trail No. 18E13 (Camp Irene Trail) from ΒΌ mile west of its intersection with Forest Trail No. 17E47 continuing southwest to its terminus at Forest Trail No. 17E27.
