Re: SIERRA INSPIRATION PHOTOTHON!
This photo was shot by my brother Mike(of HST fame) in Yosemite near Volgelsang in 1972. Not a great photo, but it is a great memory. I'm on the left, friend Mike Houck middle and my brother Dan right. It was our first real backpacking trip and it introduced me to the rugged beauty of the Sierra Nevada. Of course brother Mike marched us like a drill sergant and we were always very hungry, but we had a blast!

Those little creeps got into my supply of Instant Pudding and wolfed it down while I was out exploring. Bottomless pits. I don't think Van was even out of junior high, the other two just young high schoolers. That photo was taken with an Olympus rangefinder camera, a PEN-EE, which was especially frugal with film -- it could fit two exposures per frame, 72 shots on a strip of 36 exposure film. This made it especially appealing to my thrifty father!

Hahahahaha. Reminds me of when my best friend's Mom made us take his little brother on a weekend hike. We already had our stuff packed and as we "usually " had more that enough, we didn't take any extra food for him. All we had for our last day before pickup was some instant mashed potatos, spam and some hominy. So....... we had potato hominy spam soup. To this day I can't stand hominy. That was 40 some years ago but it still makes me laugh.Mike M. wrote:Those little creeps got into my supply of Instant Pudding and wolfed it down while I was out exploring. Bottomless pits. Ansel van Adams (aka vandman) in 1986 with his medium-format camera (Mamiya RZ67?) and gargantuan tripod, near Bullfrog Lake, at the top of the Vidette switchbacks.
As always, ahead of the fashion curve -- are those "distressed" Levis??

yours truly, all grubby & ugly, with his trusty 4x5 in milestone basin
(back in the day when carrying a 100 lb. pack was no big deal)
