Re: SIERRA INSPIRATION PHOTOTHON!
Dude where's my tube tent?
A vintage Kodachrome from June 1977 of my friend Mitch(left) and me after a couple of days of snow, grapple, and cold rain. We were camped just above the lake between Goddard Pass and Ionian Basin. The tube tent worked well; we sat out 2 days of nasty weather and stayed dry. Luckily, we had a bag of magic herbal remedy to keep us company. All of the lakes in the basin were iced and covered in snow. The sun broke through only a few times, but enough for us to summit Goddard and explore the area in our all cotton hiking attire.
A few days earlier, one morning in upper Goddard canyon near Pig Chute, we were awoken by an adolescent bear reaching into our tube tent grabbing the top of my pack frame. He was yanking on it, trying to dislodge it from the boulders it was wedged between. I picked up a fistful of granite sand and threw it in his face. He sneezed and gave us a Mike Tyson stare, then exhaled a foul smelling snort and took off up the hill.

Interesting granite formation that resembles melted candle wax. Near Schoolmarm Lake in Blackcap Basin. August 2006.

Hay vandman, each of you're pictures (for me) had some real character to them. I don't remember the rock by Schoolmarm. Too bad for me.
Here is a pic with some character at Cathedral L.

Cross Country, You're just going to have to strap on a pack and revisit the Blackcap Basin area. Most of the granite between Schoolmarm Lake and Confusion Pass had this smooth pudding texture. Here's some more of that rock. This shot was taken above Bullet Lake.

Morning reflection on Devil's Punchbowl in Red Mountain Basin(Blackcap area). The small lakes between the Punchbowl and Two Pass were loaded with trout!! John Muir Wilderness, August 2006.
