3 night out-and-back backpacking trip along the High Sierra Trail to Kaweah Gap last weekend
7/1 - Buck Creek - 2
7/2 - Hamilton Lake/Precipice Lake - 1
7/3 - 9 Mile Creek - 2
Nothing unbearable this trip (thank god). Mosquitos were definitely present in meadows but were not too much of a bother unless you stay there.
Trail gossip was that Bearpaw Meadow was a 3 but we did not stay there, only stopped there to use the restroom. We had also heard from hikers coming back on 7/1 that mosquitos were active in full force (3-4) in Big Arroyo, and they did not recommend staying there.
Note for future hikers: there is unfiltered water available at the Bearpaw ranger station, despite what you may hear (0.25 mi away from Bearpaw Meadow). We also heard that

2 night loop in Ansel Adams Wilderness. Agnew Meadows --> Thousand Island lake --> Garnet Lake --> Agnew Meadows
7/2 - Agnew Meadows --> High Trail --> Thousand Island - 1
7/3 - Thousand Island --> Garnet Lake - 2/3
7/4 - Garnet Lake --> JMT --> Agnew Meadows - 1
Mosquitoes were light during the day throughout the entire trip. They were present in woodsy/swampy/shady areas but not overly aggressive. Almost non-existent on the sunny un-shaded parts of the trails/lakes. Spent 2-3 hours napping and enjoying the weather at Garnet Lake with no bites.
Day 1 at Thousand Island was clear mostly due it being windy that night. Day 2 evening at Garnet Lake was between moderate & heavy level. That said, they were not overly aggressive. Clothing was treated with permethrin and did not use any sort of insect repellent otherwise.
Ended the trip with 2-3 bites total which isn't bad by my standards!
Glen Alpine Creek basin in Desolation, 7/5 thru 7/8

Glen Alpine Creek basin in Desolation, Tuesday 7/5 thru Friday 7/8. There were mosquitoes everywhere however it was windy the whole trip so they rarely made an appearance. On the Glen Alpine trail to Susie Lake where from the Gilmore trail junction to near Susie Lake is where in heavy wind blocking forest there are many black water ponds, a large marsh. Easily a 4 or 5 over that half mile. With basin elevations below 10k to 6.5k, at shady north facing spots are melting snows above 7.9k that will be keeping streamlets active through July across higher landscapes with mosquito breeding pools common. It was so windy the first three days I never used DEET about my exposed camp area and cowboy camped after 9pm all night without a head net. So would rate most areas as a 2 in wind but would likely be a 3 once wind wanes. Whole trip just a few bites on hands.

Did the High Sierra trail June 28th - July 4th. Everything was good until we descended into Kaweah Gap. Midway into Kaweah Gap and until we climbed up out of Big Arroyo Junction we were having a bad time with bugs. solid 4+
