Corona Virus

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

People in Santa Clara County who volunteered were likely to be the ones who had symptoms but were not allowed to be tested due to a shortage of covid tests. These people were curious, so they volunteered for the antibody test. The selection bias increases the number of people who are estimated to have had the virus and decreases the estimated death rate. On top of this, the antibody test that was used was not approved by the FDA. We have no idea the rate of false positives. In the end the study gives us one more data point, but it's not really that useful. Even if we take the study's results at face value, 95% of the population have not yet been exposed to the virus.
It's Stanford, so I think they've heard of selection bias and adjusted for it. :D
You'd be wrong. They recognized the selection bias, but said it was unimportant since it couldn't be quantified. Researchers will defend their research. It's a rare person that will say, well all that money and time we spent was wasted. That's why we have peer review.

I see someone else beat me to the selection bias in the test. I guess I should read all posts before posting.

It's almost as if some want the worst to happen.
Curent US death toll at about 40.5K.
Will they be disapointed if we don't get to the projected 60K?
Why are some so dismissive of any potential good news in the fight against the virus?

It's almost as if some want the economy to completely crash.
We're at about 22 million unemployed.
That's almost 550 to 1.
Do some want it to get to 1000 to 1?

Have we hit a new low in intelligence?

I just read on facebook the virus was intentionally being sprayed from the chemtrail planes.

Those pesky Illuminati are at it again!

From the Wikipedia:

For 2016 specifically, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data shows 37,461 people were killed in 34,436 motor vehicle crashes, an average of 102 per day.

I think we should institute a national speed limit of 15 MPH.
Just think of how safe we would all be.

But why bother with chemtrail planes when the virus is clearly caused by 5-G wireless signals
... at least, according to the nutjobs currently torching cellular towers in the U.K.

edit:
oops - sorry, dave54 - the way I quoted you, it misses the point that you were ridiculing the “chem trail” nonsense. Apologies.

Have been getting a lot of current COVID-19 stats here:

https://covid19info.live/

As for the above argumentations some of you seem to think has importance...yawn.

Nothing we are saying on this small web board will amount to squat just like some of the usual political posts some seem regularly to think have importance. On another global outdoor site I frequent, a month plus long coronavirus thread is now over 300 pages long. Note I'm still voting yet again this fall over several POTUS cycles for the write in..."the Invisble Man".
