My son and I did a 10 day loop of the TRT starting middle July 2009. My wife dropped us off at the TRT trail near Spooner Summit in the late afternoon. We carried enough water to get us to convenience store near Kingsbury grade. We bought a gallon of water at the store the next morning. We found natural water sources without difficulty the next several days until we were north of Tahoe City. We did a food resupply at Echo Lake and my wife meet us at Tahoe City where we had dinner and got more food, clean clothing and water. We meet my wife again at dinner times near Brockway Summit, Mount Rose highway and finally finished near Spooner summit. We carried a lot of water from Tahoe City and Brockway Summit.

Meeting my wife for 3 more resupplies allowed us to add water weight and reduce food and clothing weight. We were happy for the fresh meals at dinner and clean clothes at each meet up. The views were great but we didn't enjoy interacting with a some of the fast moving mountain bikers when not in wilderness areas. We had great weather without any thunderstorms. We often do small pieces of the TRT as day hikes since we live in Reno but probably won't do a fully TRT loop as a single trip again.

JWreno - what do you recall as to whether there was any significant snow remaining when you were on the trail on 2009?

I don't recall interacting with snow on the 2009 trip. I just checked the Tiago pass opening date for that year and it was May 19th so it wasn't a heavy snow year.
