Ascending and descending: ca.45 years of training road tests

How do you prepare for the rigorous physical requirements of high elevation adventure? Strength and endurance are key, but are only part of a more complex equation. How do you prepare for changes in altitude, exposure, diet, etc.? How do you mentally prepare? Learn from others and share what you know about training in advance for outdoor adventures.

Good for you Giantbrookie!!
I certainly have never been a strong as you and have not been through cancer treatment. However, I have had my own set of challenges in the past couple of years and intend to get in shape for a good backpacking season despite all of it, including the hot, ever more miserable weather.
