Gloves in the stores are the norm, trying to keep it the 6’ distance, will avoid isles with to many people in it, items go into a bag (including the receipt) after checkout.
When I get in the apartment door, I go up to wash my hand, put on gloves, then go back down to sanitize the receipt, food items, keys, phone, door knob, alarm, and then finally the grocery bag.

Did you all see the video, where they showed the difference between washing your hands, with soap and hot water, for 10 sec and 20 sec.
10 seconds only eliminated half of the germs under the black light, 20 seconds on the other hand, got rid of all of them, it’s really important for everyone to follow the 20 sec rule am the time, but especially now.
Being in food service, this is something we already been aware of, since we need to take sanitation classes/tests every couple of years.

Just got back from the little ACE hardware store here in Wilton. Parking lot was packed. Mostly men inside trying to either find a part or escaping home lock-down/kids/wife for a while.
The nuts/bolts isle was busy. At least 5 of us digging through the bins to find the right bolt.
ACE marked the floor with little green boxes every 6' at the check-out line. Patrons had no masks, gloves and pretty much ignored the 6' rule. Most laughed when they figured out what the squares were for.

Some stores have the tape at 6’ intervals at the checkout counters and isles, certain stores only allow a certain amount of people into the stores at a time.
Ok, time to get back to watching “Andromeda Strain”.

My elderly mom and I both got the flu shot in October. I work at a college, and most of the students, faculty, and staff got a "cold" in the first week of March (including myself). My mom got sick at the same approximate time. The symptoms were extremely variable: from a bad "flu" for some to just a light "cold" for most. I got a sore throat and a weird "lightheaded/buzzy" feeling for 3 days. I remembered feeling exactly the same buzzy feeling for a day or two after I got several vaccinations for a trip to Thailand. And then it went away. Didn't even get a runny nose.

But my mom...she was sick for 3 weeks. No fever, no chills/shortness of breath, but she did have a persistent non-productive cough. Even now it's just barely getting better.

The college where I work is 20 miles from Los Angeles, and community transmission was already underway in Feb. So my guess? I'm guessing many folks, possibly including myself, have already gotten it. The amount of testing being done is pitiful even now, and just two weeks ago testing was non-existent. So it's definitely possible that it has been spreading undetected for quite some time.

Hopefully I'm right...because if I am, then it's not going to be as bad as people fear.

My daughter had a cold with aches and my grandson had pneumonia. They just got back their tests -negative for coronavirus. Good news that they did not have the virus; bad news that now she is no longer under quarantine so has to go back to work in the hospital, exposed to coronavirus with inadequate safety gear. So yes, all the other normal stuff (flu, colds, etc.) is still going on, to confuse matters.

CNN is now reporting cases in each state "per 100K population" as well as total cases. California does not look as bad, given that perspective. But what is happening now is reflective of 2 weeks ago, so we still have to wait and see how this plays out.

Talked to my friend Steve in Dallas. He was sick after a trip to Austin a couple of weeks ago. Went through one of those drive-thru Corvid testing setups. Came back positive. He feels glad that is over and said it hit him hard.

I wonder where in Austin he picked it up and how many others were impacted, community spread wise. It was a music festival.

One big determinant of how large the death count is for any country is the number of hospital beds per capita. Italy suffered greatly, and the Italians have more beds per capita than we do in the US. And we in the US have far fewer beds than China.

Japan and Germany have the most beds per capita, and they done well compared to the rest of the world.
