We'll be heading in late in the morning of the 23rd, also from the BC Diversion dam. Looking forward to meeting you all. Ian and Lizzie and Wolfie.

Best of luck, fun, and safety meet up folks.
At 9:45am 7/22/24, do see plenty of quota spots open for those able to join at short notice:

2 openings on 7/24 for Italy Pass
1 7/24 Piute Pass
4 on 7/23 8 on 7/24 at Bear Diversion Dam
9 on 7/23 10 on 7/24 at Bear Ridge.
11 7/23 14 for 7/24 at Florence
23 on 7/23 28 on 7/24 at Mono Creek

The Bear Diversion Dam entry would be least hiking effort. This person at same dates is set to leisurely base camp 4 nights up Green creek, photoing and fishing with bro J. But not in good enough shape to do the East Fork of Bear Creek that would be 3 strenuous days going in and 2.5 out.

Wouldn't say I'm fully "normal" from covid yet, but I'm still forging ahead with the trip as planned. Will be heading up to Bishop after work today, will be hitting the Pine Creek trailhead early tomorrow with the hopes of going over Italy/DB Pass and making it to V Lake by afternoon.

Wow, your beast! Just making Italy Pass is a full day of fun for me.

So, what do you do when the new girlfriend of your buddy announces a mile (I'm being generous) up the trail that her asthma is acting up and she needs to stop to recover? And then was reluctant to proceed.

And this incident occurred after 5 moths of interrogation (by yours truly) about the level of fitness and suitability of said person for such an undertaking.

It is easy to blame oneself for gullibility-trust, but I still think there is shared culpability.

We aborted. Not quite tragic; more like tragicomedy?
Hopefully, y'all fared MUCH better. And kudos to Schmalz for getting it done. Sorry to have missed the show! Cameron

I'd try to ensure said person had done training hikes beforehand, preferably with a pack and some weight on. Was it her first backpacking trip? Bummer about the scrubbed mission.

Kudos to everyone who was able to make it out this year. It was a great trip. The bear lakes basin is special.

Wonderful meetup! We had the largest attendance (12 + 2 dogs). We had thunderstorms; some were severe, especially on 7/20 and 7/24. I prefer to let everyone chime in with their trip report to give you an insight from everyone's perspective than write my own.

Thank you again for taking the time to take your vacation and attend under challenging circumstances. Meeting new people and people I have met previously was highly satisfying and worth the effort. I can hardly wait for the next meetup. :)

I'm really glad we were able to meet many of you over Saturday breakfast. Special thanks to our late night welcome committee (maverick and tomba) and to the Harlens for sharing a lovely hike through the Bear Lakes Basin, Lake Italy, and the Hilgard Branch.
