WD, due to the rain, I never even made it to the inlet end of Huckleberry. I camped at the outlet end where I came in during a storm, and then took the "supposed old trail" up on the dog leg past Olive Lake to Letora. A horse had been over it a day or two before which helped, but it was somewhat intermittent. The hardest part was finding the start to it.Wandering Daisy wrote: ↑Sat May 17, 2025 9:14 pm I did Latora to Huckleberry this summer. That trail as well as the trail to Buck Lake have been recently worked on. You still have to pay attention but it was much better than in the past. I also did it in the Fall after a summer's use by others and horses. The huge camp area at Huckleberry Lake is still a rat's maze of trails so finding the start could need some scouting. I went the other way so no problem. It is very obvious from Cow Meadow Lake to Latora.
Of course, I assume you mean the trail on the newer 7.5 min USGS map, from Huckleberry Lake inlet.
NOT the supposed old trail on the old 15-minute maps from Huckleberry outlet area.

Glad to hear that the connecting trail to Buck Lakes has been worked on. The last two times I went there, I could not find it after it left the southern Buck Lake to head over to the main trail. It was not hard to cross-x that area through a mostly open forest, but I was peeved that the trail was missing.
In 2023 I found the main Bell Meadow trail, that runs up Buck Meadow Creek, Woods Lake, over to Cow Meadow and Letora--to be immaculate. A pedestrian superhighway. I presume they have put their resources into keeping this stem trail in good shape. Does it stay good all the way down to the Emigrant inlet? (I have not been on it past Letora.)
